The Drinks Reception at your Wedding.

Drinks for the Wedding Reception

Disco, disco, party, party! Our favourite part of the wedding after the room reveal of the decor! We have got to a really popular wedding topic, The drinks at the reception…

Okay, so I know it would sound so cool if the bar was open for everyone and can have unlimited drinks during the whole evening, but that is the point when you really must think over your budget. Drinks really add up and can make a large contribution to your overall wedding budget.

Beverages in the hospitality industry isn’t the cheapest unless you manage to get a great deal with your caterer that charge a per head amount for unlimited drinks but if it is just a bar tab your guests can really tally up a huge bill. Honestly, how many times it has happened that you just went for a one night out, had a great time, then next day you checked your bank account and could not believe how much money you spent on drinks. A lot, ridiculously lot. On your wedding day you would spend the same money but for yourself plus for all of the guests as well, so the cost of that day can easily increase from an acceptable to an unbelievably high amount.

Ways to help the budget for the bar spend.

  1. Give your guests a 3 token maximum which allows them three drinks that you (the couple) pay for, and any more than their token amount they pay for. 3 drinks is more than enough to last the night from the first dance to the close of night. It is being fair but fun.

The people you invited will not be upset or disappointed, if they cannot drink as much as they just could, they are there to celebrate you two, not going crazy or step over a line that they have never done before. Fingers crossed for not having awkward moments.

2. Bring your own bar in! This option can only work with certain venues that allow for it. This comes down to the negotiation before you start your booking. Check your terms and conditions and see the corkage prices work out if it makes sense to pop to Paris for a drinks run to bring back into the country for the party. Some venues do not mind at all if you bring your own drinks so it is something to consider from before you put your deposit down.

3. Have a dry bar! Not sure if this is an option for everyone but if you say to your guests it is a dry wedding, they will respect that!

4.Set a limit at the bar – similar to point number one, but it is more useful if you are wanting people not to have to faf about with coins, have your bar spend, tell your venue and then have your had max. Then there will not be any surprises at the end of the night.

Try to figure out which option fits you the best.

Calculate it again and again and have an approximate amount of the cost of the beverage in your mind.

The best parties always start with a shot of tequila…or a nice glass of martini, shaken, not stirred!

Cheers everybody!
